Ebay has become this website that has turned against certain members which are of course the SELLERS ! I sold my first item on ebay last year, for some reason ebay didn't mark me as seller back then when I sold so this year it makes me seem like I'm a new seller which I am not(I'm going to give them a call regarding this). For the new year ebay has lots of new rules in effect, which a lot of sellers don't like.
* You can't leave negative/neutral feedback for a buyer, you can ONLY leave a Positive Feedback.
* The buyer is always right and even if you don't accept returns you MUST give the buyer a return or they just may file a case against you which could leave your account in bad standing.
There's so much more than that but I don't want to get into. There are too many rules to explain.
For new sellers ebay has their 90 day rule which you have to be a seller for over 90 days before your limits can be raised. Isn't this crazy ? 90 days = 3 months ! It really should be less !
Right now my best advice for someone seeking to sell on ebay is DO NOT sell on ebay, you will go through too much of a hassle verifying your account, and Paypal they are just as much trouble too....DO NOT sign up for their Debit Master card or any of their cards, they will ask you to fax them 3 proofs of identity (example : your SSN, Proof of Address, Photo I.D., Phone/Utitilty Bill....etc) or your account will be closed in 14-15 days.
However if you'd still like to proceed and sell on ebay make sure to follow ALL THE RULES, and I mean all of them cause if you make one mistake that can leave your account not in good standing. Also, for Paypal they can hold your money for up to 21 days as a new seller plus they can freeze your account at any given time. The money in the account would not be released to you until any issue is resolved so my best bet is not to keep any money in Paypal, transfer it to your bank account ASAP !
I read a guy's story on this forum about how he had over thousands of dollars in his ebay account only to have his account frozen with the money in it. Did he ever get it back ? NO ! He got into a car accident while he was selling on ebay and had to be in the hospital for weeks on top of weeks, his wife didn't know how to use the computer so she couldn't do much to help his sales on ebay. People had bought items and a lot of his customers were pissy and left a lot of negative feedback which ruined his ebay acccount and paypal account. He tried his best to explain to customers what happened, some called it BS but others believed him and didn't mind and still wanted their items, some people wanted refunds so he did just as they asked. Can he call ebay or paypal to explain his situation ? NO ! They do not care about the seller, their main goal is protecting the buyers NOT the sellers.

Here is a video of Eric talking about Ebay and why not to sell on ebay.
If you've been on ebay since before September 2010 before all the new rules came in effect then as a seller you should be fine but the new sellers have a lot of trouble ahead of them.
Old sellers should be pretty fine.
However, the number one thing that does effect all sellers are the FEES, ebay and there on going fees. Ebay earns from ads on their site plus they have other sites they own such as half(dot)com, billmelater)dot)com which also carries ads. I even think they own Paypal too, correct me if I'm wrong.
Does ebay really need to charge insertion fees and final value fees ? NO !
If they want to continue charging some type of fee then they can charge a final value fee ONLY if the item sells but ebay always wants extra fees in additional to your first fee, it's really disgusting !
They should let sellers list as much as they would like and only charge the seller if an items sells. There should be no limits. This would help new sellers build there feedback faster and help people who use ebay to make an actual income to eat, pay rent....etc.
I will further this topic in another post which would be titled " Ebay Alternatives ". That post will include links of all the other sites that you can sell on besides ebay.
EBAY SUCKS ONLY PROTECTS THE BUYER NOT THE SELLER. THE BUYER LEFT ME A POSITIVE FEEDBACK THEN MESSAGE ME SAYING SHE NOT HAPPY SO WHY THE HELL DO YOU PUT A POSITIVE FEEDBACK IF YOUR NOT HAPPY I POSTED ON THE AD NO RETURNS NO REFUNDS SO SHE OPENED A CASE AND EBAY CLOSED THE CASE ON HER FAVOR. FUCK YOU EBAY!!! AND YOU TO BUYER!!! im closing my account now im selling on craigslist its free and i dont have to deal with the feedback
